Following recent plans to close languages at Victoria University, the University appears now intent on closing half of the mathematics department at the Victoria University
With shortages of maths teachers in local schools, this appears to be another situation where the University is out of step with the community.
‘The mathematics profession is warning that declines in university staffing and student numbers is set to create critical skills shortages, especially in school teaching, which they say is disproportionately hitting state schools.’
